The Final 20%: Where Precision Boot Fitting Transforms Performance

Most boot fitters focus on comfort and a quick, happy customer. That’s fine — but it’s only the beginning.
A general boot fitting corrects about 80% of comfort issues, yet delivers only about 20% of your true performance potential.

At The Ski With Greg Boot Studio, we specialize in that last 20% — the expert-level fine-tuning that unlocks 80% of your performance gains.

It’s where science, feel, and experience come together to make your boots—and your skiing—work in perfect harmony.

When Your Boots Are Holding You Back

Many skiers don’t realize their boots are the problem. If you’ve ever felt any of these on the mountain, it’s time for a performance correction:

  • “I can’t get to the front of my boot.”
  • “I can’t engage my outside ski.”
  • “I can’t feel my edges.”
  • “I’m always in the back of my boot when I ski moguls.”
  • “I flex over the top of my boot.”
  • “I can turn one way, but not the other.”
  • “My feet are cold or numb.”
  • “My heel lifts when I ski.”

Precision Fit. Balanced Stance. Maximum Response.

At Ski With Greg Boot Studio, we go beyond basic boot fitting to deliver true performance alignment.

Through meticulous stance evaluation, shell and liner modification, and custom footbed design, we bring every element into balance—so your skis react instantly and efficiently to every move.

This is not retail boot fitting.
This is performance engineering for skiers who demand more.

CUSTOM FOODBEDS

Custom footbeds, also called insoles or orthotics, are specially designed inserts that fit inside ski boots to provide support, comfort, and stability. Greg’s custom footbeds are created by taking a mold of your feet to ensure a perfect fit. They’re a valuable investment, especially for skiers who spend a lot of time on the slopes or struggle with foot pain in standard ski boots.

For skiing, custom footbeds offer several key benefits:

Improved Comfort: Ski boots can be stiff and unforgiving, often causing discomfort or pain. Custom footbeds help distribute pressure evenly across the foot, reducing pressure points and allowing for longer, more comfortable skiing.

Enhanced Stability and Control: By creating a stable base for the foot, custom footbeds improve balance and alignment, which is essential for good control on the slopes. With better alignment, you’ll have a more responsive connection with the skis, allowing for smoother turns and better overall performance.

Better Fit and Reduced Heel Lift: Ski boots are designed to fit tightly, but without proper support, the foot can move around inside the boot. Custom footbeds secure the foot in place, reducing heel lift and friction, which can lead to blisters and decreased control.

Reduced Fatigue and Foot Cramps: By supporting the natural shape of the foot, custom footbeds reduce strain on muscles and tendons, leading to less fatigue and fewer cramps during long days on the mountain.

Improved Circulation: A proper footbed reduces pressure points, which can improve circulation in the feet. This is crucial for maintaining warmth and preventing numbness in cold weather.

Custom Footbed Q & A

Why do I want a custom footbed for my ski boot, the ones that came with the boot are just fine.

The footbed is the all important integration between your foot, ski boot, the ski and ultimately the snow you’re skiing on. If the marriage between your foot and the footbed is not molded to the shape of your foot, the gaps that exist are areas of imbalance, instability and ski snow responsiveness.

In a ski boot your foot has to pronate to balance against the inside edge of your outside ski and supinate to the outside edge of your inside ski. That’s a mouthful. What it means is in a stock footbed your arch will deform to the inside of the boot prior to the ski being able to respond to your input. For some people that can be sore or achy feet at the end of the day. For others folks that can result in slow turn performance, and late turn initiation. Now, there are many other factors for performance issues, but taking away the areas within your control is the first step in skiing at your full potential.

What will a custom footbed do for my skiing?

A custom footbed will be heat molded to your foot in a semi-weighted position. All the little nuances on the bottom of your foot will be embedded and there will be just the right amount of arch support. Some people will need a very stiff insole to give them the right amount of support, while others will need a much softer insole to help absorb the shock that occurs when skiing off piste. The result of either implementation is immediate response between your foot – boot and ski and ultimately the snow. When you roll your ankle the edge of the ski will respond.

If I have you make a footbed will it fit my ski boot?

After the footbed is made, it is sized to your boot and I go through a complete ski boot refit; making sure the liner fits correctly, there are no hot spots or gaps. During that time I check the upper cuff alignment, boot to floor alignment and any other issues you can explain about your skiing.

Here’s just one example: a lady is taking a lesson and when I ask her to flex her ankles and bend her knees to apply shin pressure to the tongue of her boot, she complains that her heel lifts. That’s easily fixed during the boot refit.

How long does it take to go through the process?

About an hour.

Is there a Guarantee?

The custom footbed I make you is guaranteed. It will fit your foot, and your boot correctly. If you feel it does NOT help your skiing you can return it for your money back!

I was going to send you an email today… spectacular!
My feet were unbelievably comfortable and not sure if it was the feet, but I hit the ball about as well as I could have. 10/10. Very good experience and exceeded my expectations. Thanks for the happy feet!

Greg

I took a couple 4 mile hikes on Mtn trails & foot Beds worked great. The soft fore front is way more comfortable than Bucks & much better for climbing. The arch & heel have great support.

Thanks

Fred

Thanks Greg!
The boots fit well after the adjustments you made. Can’t wait to try them out this season. Better fit, better performance. Works for me!
